Top Six Timewasters

Although my life seems very full, I still squeeze enough time in every day for some timewasting. Obviously not my most shining moments, but these simple pleasures keep me entertained when Emily is asleep:

  1. MySpace and Facebook - I really don't update my profiles that often, but getting to see who's dating who, and pictures of an acquaintance's last overseas trip is just stimulating enough to pass the time.
  2. Zillow - The ultimate in home-stalking. We don't own a house, but I still like to see how much everyone else's house is worth, what sold in the neighborhood, and who's offering.
  3. TV in General - Between Law & Order, HGTV, and TLC, I can always find something to watch, and melt brain cells.
  4. Spider Solitare - Becuase sometimes the internet acts up.
  5. Cooking Light - Search for healthy recipes by ingredient, course, food style, or many other search terms. A shortcut I use: Wait until Lindsey searches the site and sends me the best tested recipes. Thanks, Linds!
  6. iPhone - I can update my contacts while at work, check my checking account balance from the grocery store, search for new Apps, or play any of the free games. Anytime. Good thing I have a car charger.

Arrrrgh!

Because what would a blog be without a few inside jokes?

On Sunday, February 8, 2009, I witnessed an event that will be furthermore referred to as "The Great Lego Pirate Episode of 2009." It appears that there was a seizure of the Mindt Household as waves of Lego pirates took one of their own as hostage. All Lego pirates have been apprehended and, thankfully, no one was injured. Blasted scallywags!

Finger-Pricking Madness

Top Six Reasons I Was NOT Looking Forward to Having Gestational Diabetes

1. Counting Grapes. I saw a dear friend (plagued with gestational diabetes) count 12 grapes...while I mindlessly popped them in my mouth. It really was one of the saddest things I've ever seen. The Diabetic Diet really isn't so bad, but no fruit? Mama likes her apples and grapes, and I eat them in moderation, but I don't want to have to count.

2. Diabetic Center visits. I hear you have to visit the Diabetes Center every week or two. I'm all about making friends and connecting with others who share in your plight, but 2-3 hours out of every week? I simply don't have time for that.

3. Macrosmia. Big, fat babies (go look it up!). Not something I even want to think about. Any of you who have done the physics and size comparisons between what comes out and where it comes from knows that bigger isn't always better, when it comes to babies.

4. Finger Pricking. Really...you get used to that? No thanks.

5. Numb Feet. I knew a lady who walked funny because she had no sensation in her feet. She had Diabetes, of course. Aside from all the other medical complications, I don't want to walk funny.

6. Diabetes, Part 2. A 60% chance that diabetes will catch you later in life makes me cringe.

For those of you who didn't know, I screened positive for Diabetes during the One Hour Glucose Test. So...I got the sheer pleasure of enduring the Three Hour Glucose Test. Pregnant...12 hour fast...intense sugar water...three hours at the lab...four blood draws. Now you understand my lack of enthusiasm. It all turned out okay, so in celebration...I made brownies that called for an entire box of powdered sugar.

Tahoe Getaway

Lake Tahoe: Visit this majestic location as often as possible. Our trip in January was wonderful...visiting with good friends and playing in the snow.

Highlights of the trip:

-Sledding...

-Emily making muffins with Lindsey and Braden (and watching her eat them...and getting that feel-good "mom" feeling knowing she was eating pureed squash and fresh blueberries)
- Sleeping. Although this did not make me the most fun house-guest, I caught up on some much needed z's. Thanks to our hosts for being so understanding!

-Restoring a calming hope to my vision of our crazy growing family. Hailey, a sweet six-month old baby, showed me that there is hope with two kids. Some light was shed on my worst-case-scenario nightmares of waking up 4 times a night to soothe a fussy baby, and then being expected to be "fun mommy" to a toddler starting at 6 am. Thanks, Baby Hailey, for being such a sweet and content child.

-Visiting with friends who are like family.

MIA

I've been politely reminded by just a few of my closest friends and family members that we DO have a blog to update. Taking on a blog is not a commitment one should take lightly, and we don't! And in case you were concerned about my self-esteem and well-being, this lapse in posts has nothing to do with the fact that my gyno is funnier than me.

Rather, (cue sob story) I'm busy and pregnant and tired.

Here we are, catching up. This isn't because I've stumbled upon some time-management secrets, or I have a new burst of energy. Truth be told...this is the reason I have the time:
Emily is sick, so I stayed home from work. Here she is, snuggling with Baby, drinking honey milk, and watching Dora the Explorer. She'll be better soon!

We do plan to be back on a more regular basis, and apologize if you have been holding your breath for another update on Emily.

Thanks for being patient!
